I am a writer, researcher and editor with a variety of publications in a wide range of genres in both fiction and non-fiction. Please refer to my portfolio page for a list of publications.
I specialise in editing speculative fiction and horror; in non-fiction I specialise in family and regional histories, survivor stories, self-help, spiritual and New Age books, diaries and cards.
Editing can range from a full developmental or structural edit - an edit that assists a writer redraft their story into something stronger - to a proofread before publication and can include several stages in between. I work mainly at the structural level, helping you to look at your story or non-fiction book with a fresh perspective and to identify elements that could be strengthened or adjusted to make your story stronger.
A fictional structural edit looks at character, plot, timelines, narrative, dialogue, pace, flow, theme and many other elements and also, like non-fiction, looks at the overall flow and order of the manuscript is working at it's best. It's a very detailed edit with the aim of assisting you to redraft your manuscript.
A copy edit looks at spelling, grammar, sentence structure, clarity, meaning, heading levels (if appropriate) and consistency and accuracy.
I also edit short stories, submission pitches and blurbs or can help you write a blurb. I offer limited copywriting services for shorter-form works such as pitches, blurbs and author biographies.
If you're not sure what it is you need, I'm always happy to chat with you about your project before starting any work.
I've written articles ranging from spelling to sport. I love working with words - whether they're yours or mine.
